Many of the leading builders in North, Central, and East Texas build ENERGY STAR qualified homes. By choosing to purchase an ENERGY STAR qualified home you are not only investing in a high-quality home, but you are also investing in the future of Texas. Here are some questions to ask when you are choosing a homebuilder.

Step 1
Ask your homebuilder if the home/building plans you want to purchase have been verified by an accredited HERS Rater to meet ENERGY STAR specifications.  Any home, large or small, can earn the ENERGY STAR.

Step 2
Talk to your homebuilder about upgrading your appliances to ENERGY STAR appliances. Under the new guidelines for ENERGY STAR qualified homes that went into effect for homes in Texas permitted on or after July 1, 2006, some ENERGY STAR qualified products and appliances are required in homes that earn the ENERGY STAR label. Furthermore, the selection of ENERGY STAR qualified products can contribute to a lower utility bill.

Step 3
Ask your homebuilder if their preferred lending company offers energy efficient mortgages (EEMs). EEMs can help you qualify for a larger home or more upgrades by calculating the presumed energy savings of your ENERGY STAR qualified home.
